Introduction - ABB Application Control

Application Controller Platform
The ABB application control platform is a versatile control for robotic modules and cells
that encompass additional components and logic besides the robot.

Controlling a combination of components
The application control software is a PC-based software written in C# programming language. It serves two main purposes:

  1. Simple and cost-effective integration of various components – example robot, gripper and camera
  2. Control and orchestration of applications encompassing a variety of components with a single computer and user interface

The core control platform encompasses a variety of so-called add-ins to compose different functionalities for different applications.

Per default the application control comes with some standard services enabling developers, integrators and operators to work with the robot application.

  • User-Interface
For different applications one configurable user-interface is used that can be extended with additional tabs or sub-sections to display application variations – for example show a camera UI.
  • I/O service
Application control incorporates access to configure or develop I/O logic to control different components – for example lights.
  • Application services
Logic to control an application – for example storage logic in the FlexBuffer application cell.
  • Custom services
Customizable logic to enhance existing or create new services – for example building an option to enable FlexBuffer to palletize at oubound.
